At Epitech, the 4th year is more than just a part of the curriculum — it’s a gateway to the world. Every year, our students have the opportunity to spend a full year abroad at one of our partner universities, discovering new cultures, broadening their horizons, and gaining invaluable personal and professional skills.
This year, we had the chance to speak with one of our students from Epitech Nice, who spent his Tech4 in South Korea, at Keimyung University. His story perfectly illustrates how international mobility can become a transformative experience.
Discovering a New World through Code and Culture

“I’ve always been passionate about programming” he explains. “Back in high school, I was torn between pursuing mathematics or programming — but in the end, coding won.” Describing himself as a “Swiss Army knife in the world of technologies” his thirst for versatility and new challenges led him to choose South Korea for his exchange year.
“I was fascinated by the unique culture, and I saw a great opportunity to grow — both personally and professionally. Keimyung University offered courses focused on game development, which aligned perfectly with my career interests.”
South Korea’s vibrant gaming industry, combined with the chance to learn a new language and immerse himself in an entirely different cultural context, made it an ideal destination.
First Steps in Daegu: A Warm Welcome

Arriving in Daegu — South Korea’s fourth-largest city — was a moment of both excitement and adaptation. “At first, everything felt a bit disorienting” he admits. “But the university made it easier with an orientation day for international students. The students and staff were incredibly welcoming — they really helped me feel at home.”
The cultural differences quickly became a source of inspiration. From trying Korean food and drinks to practicing the language in everyday interactions, the student embraced his new environment with curiosity and enthusiasm.
Growing Through Challenge and Discovery
Beyond the personal journey, the academic experience at Keimyung University also left a lasting impression. “I had the chance to work on game development projects and apply my technical knowledge in new ways. It was incredibly enriching.”
The year abroad brought much more than academic credits. “I gained confidence in my abilities, improved my communication skills, and developed a better understanding of cultural diversity. This experience really helped me grow as a person.”
Advice for Future Tech4 Explorers
When asked what advice he’d give to fellow students considering an international exchange, his answer is clear: prepare, stay open-minded, and embrace the unexpected.
“Do your research on the country and the university, and don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. Learning to navigate a different culture will challenge you — but it’s worth every moment. It’s an experience that can truly change your life.”
Mobility that Makes a Difference
At Epitech, we believe in learning through experience. Our partnership with Keimyung University is one of many that allows our students to live, learn, and grow far beyond the classroom. Whether it’s in South Korea or elsewhere in the world, Epitech’s 4th year abroad is a unique opportunity to develop global perspectives, technical expertise, and lifelong memories.
